A LARGE PAIR OF BRONZE VASES
Signed Shokaken saku, Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
The wide flanges at the neck each engraved and inlaid in silver hon-zogan with clouds, and three geese inlaid in takazogan, the edges of the flanges inlaid in silver with shippo and leaf patterns, the necks with a band of key-fret pattern and the bodies with formal designs in silver and copper hon-zogan, one with a panel containing a shishimai dancer, the opposite panel with a man, the other vase with a further shishimai dancer, the opposite panel with another figure of a man, all the pictorial panels inlaid in silver, shibuichi and two colours of gold takazogan, the bases of the vases inlaid with peony blossoms, the bases supported by dragons, signed Shokaken Saku
