Francisque-Edouard Bertier is recorded as a member of the Société des Artistes Français, obtaining an honorable mention for his work in 1879. He was trained in the Cabanel studios and is known for his paintings of harem women.

For another vase signed V. Peccatte, see Christie's, New York, 29 March 2000, lot 16; also compare Christie's, London, 24 September 2009, lot 89 for a large pair of vases by this artist, painted and enameled with similar subjects.
