This painting illustrates that all living creatures are in samsara and that the path to nirvana requires one to pass through all forms of life, ending with the human form. The relatively large separation between the human form and the Jina remind the viewer that this final step is very difficult and that only by adhering to the tenets of Jainism can one hope to attain moksha.
