The lock of hair is thought to be the hair of Grand Duke Nicholas Alexandrovich, future Emperor Nicholas II (1868-1918). It is said to have been given to the father of the present owner by Princess Eugenie of Greece (1910-1989) on 2 March 1968. The lock of hair has not been subject to any scientific analysis and no warranty is given that this is the hair of Emperor Nicholas II.

The lock of hair is sold together with a photocopy of an envelope inscribed 'Nicky 17 sept 1875'. The photocopy, which is signed by the father of the present owner of the lock of hair, includes further typed information in French which states that the lock of hair belonged to Nicholas II, was given to him on 2 March 1968 by princess Eugenie de Grèce and that the inscription was written by 'la Reine Olga de Grè ce'.
