With blue hair, eyes and eyebrows and ochre cheeks wearing a beaded ochre necklace, the underside with the intials C/T:E/1685, the top of his head pierced with seven holes, extensive flaking to top of head, cracked through cheek and to the left side of his head, flaking to forlock, nose and extensive chipping and flaking to base

The only other recorded examples, but not dated, were sold Christie's, London, 10th October 1983, lot 84.

Such striking sculptural heads of children were perhaps intended to be portraits of the children of the marriage of the people whose initials and date appear on the bases.
