oval box, the cover, sides and base set with panels of translucent grey enamel over a peak-patterned engine-turned ground within reeded gold frames, with opaque white enamel filets and translucent green enamel foliate sablé borders, the cover centred by an oval sepia miniature painted on opaline glass, depicting a dog seated beside an altar of love

Joseph-Etienne Blerzy was apprenticed in 1750 to Francois-Joachim Aubert and became a master in 1768. A prolific goldsmith, boxes made by him can be found in the Wallace Collection, The Gilbert Collection and the Louvre. He died in 1806 when he is recorded as living at 3 rue du Coq-St Honoré.
