François Rübestück, maître in 1766.

Of German origin like many of his fellow ébénistes, François Rübestück flourished during both the Louis XV and Louis XVI periods and created a wide range of pieces decorated with marquetry or parquetry, but also vernis Martin and Oriental lacquer.
The present commode relates to an example also stamped Rübestück and of nearly identical shape and decorated with similar mounts (illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe siècle, Paris, 1998, p. 746).
