The waisted banjo-form case surmounted by a cartouche-shaped front sliding hood with elaborate acanthus cresting above a leafy flowering garland, the sides with pierced trellis windows, the glazed convex hinged occulus above a Bacchus mask within strapwork cartouche, the white enamelled dial with Arabic and Roman chapters and blued steel center-sweeping hour and minute hands, the case with a hinged door to the middle and an entrelac ormolu collar above a ribbon-tied reeded lower ormolu edge, the waisted lower section of the case above a stepped plinth base with outset and scrolled ormolu feet, mounted overall with elaborately scrolling acanthus leaves

Althought the Clement dynasty of horlogers is extensively recorded in the 18th Century, which collatoral member established his workshops in Rennes remains to be discovered. The most probable candidate is Claude le Jeune (maître in 1768).
