The movement is signed by the Rue Dauphine clock-maker Antoine Henry Voisin, elected maître in 1755, who was a member of the Paris jure from 1773 to 1807, and whose name has been recorded on other fine mantel clocks. A grey marble example of a clock with Venus and Cupid is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Encyclopédie de la Pendule Francaise, Paris, 1997, p. 246, ill. C.
