Lot Essay

This charming pot-pourri shows the influence of the marchands-merciers who were allowed to combine the products of different artisans of several corporations when the Guild's official rules were particularly constrained. These objets d'art, associating oriental porcelain and lacquer with French ormolu were highly fashionable and prized during the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI.
Related pot-pourris, associating lacquer, porcelain and ormolu, are illustrated in G. and R. Wannenes, Les bronzes ornementaux et les objets montés, Milan, 2004, pp. 198 and 206 and in P. Kjellberg, Objets montés du Moyen-Age à nos jours, Paris, 2000, p. 74.
