CASE: the naturalistic rocky case flanked by Diana with bow in hand in repose and dog on hind legs in pursuit of bird in a leafy branch with attendant snake and later salamander, on a rectangular base with quarter-round cutouts to front corners, relief panel of playful putti on later toupie feet DIAL: 5 in. diameter white enamel with outer concentric date ring, partially signed '... PARIS', engraved and pierced gilt hands, blued steel calendar hand MOVEMENT: twin barrels with anchor escapement, silk suspension and countwheel strike to bell

Lot Essay

This clock is a rare model depicting Diana the Huntress at rest. A clock of the same design is illustrated in Colon de Carvajal, Catalog de Relojos del Patrimonio National, Madrid, 1987, p. 88, cat. 71.
