Lot Essay

Jacques-Laurent Cosson (1737-1812), maitre in 1765.
This ebeniste was based in the Rue de Caronne.
The quatrefoil or lobed motif is characteristic of the work of Cosson, for example a similar commode a resaut was sold Christie's London 9th June 1994, lot 99. A commode with similar corner mounts is illustrated in Jean Nicolay, Les Maitres Ebenistes au 18e siecle, Paris, 1976, p.110, fig F.
