A MEISSEN GILT-METAL-MOUNTED RECTANGULAR SNUFF-BOX AND COVER
CIRCA 1760-70, THE MOUNT PROBABLY CONTEMPORARY
Each facet painted with satirical animal subjects in landscape vignettes including a drunken hog, courting monkeys and a lamb dressed as a shepherd, within scroll-moulded cartouches, the mount flanked by puce scale-pattern borders, the interior of the hinged cover painted with a hound dressed as a huntsman playing a fiddle before dancing hares in a landscape, the mount with husks and gadroons and centred by a shell thumbpiece (two small chips to footrim, slight scratching to footrim, small flat chip to upper rim of box)
