A MOMOYAMA PERIOD CHRISTIAN FOLDING MISSAL STAND (shokendai) decorated in aogai and hiramakie with a central sunburst halo containing the monogram of the Society of Jesus IHS (Jesu Hominum Salvator), surmounted by a cross above the three nails of the crucifixion, surrounded by tachibana, within a geometric kikyo border, the feet cut away with a decorative outline in Baroque style, the front foot panel decorated with further flowering branches, the reverse with fuyo surrounded by Namban tendril, the edges with a simple aogai geometric design (inlay and lacquer loss to areas of front and back, restored feet), late 16th/early 17th century
