SPAIN, PROBABLY BARCELONA, LATE 15TH OR EARLY 16TH CENTURY
Of rectangular form with hinged lid, the surface with triangular and diamond-shaped ivory and wood inlay, the front with central panel of small stellar motifs arranged in a hexagonal lattice, the sides with central panel of hexagonal geometric lattice centred around a roundel with star and bordered by scrolling bands with internal stars, the lid with central roundel surrounded by ring of roundels connected by radial lines, further roundels in corners and diamond-shaped cartouches, the reverse with three repeating panels with further inlaid roundels connected by curved fronds, the interior of the lid also with inlaid hexagonal geometric pattern centred on roundel, rim with inlaid floral design, in very good condition
