Lot Essay

This is a rare example of Basholi style portraiture which was probably executed in the neighboring state of Mankot. Cf. W.G. Archer, Indian Paintings from the Punjab Hills, London, 1973 vol. II, p. 27 no. 11 (i) for a comparable portrait of Raja Kirpal Pal of Basholi.
