by Louis-Franois Tronquoy (fl. 1827-1871), marked, Paris circa 1855, with the third standard mark for gold, Paris, 1838-1919
Rectangular box with rounded corners, the cover set with a rectangular translucent blue enamelled panel engine-turned with a radiating zig-zag sunburst motif, applied with a chased and engraved gold Imperial eagle seated on a thunderbolt, the four corners applied with gold initials N for Emperor Napoleon III (1808-1873), the slightly concave sides and flat base engine-turned with a pattern of fine horizontal reeding scattered with half-lozenges, the corners of the sides engraved with scrolls, the rims on cover and base dye-stamped with a floral border, the slightly raised thumbpiece similarly decorated
