This vase relates closely to an enamel cartel clock attributed to Escalier de Cristal and made for the Japanese parlour of William H. Vanderbilt's mansion at 640 Fifth Avenue, New York (now in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago). A slightly larger version of this model, fronted by an enamel parrot, sold Christie's, London, 15 March 2012, lot 126 (£32,450).
