A PAIR OF BLUE AND WHITE 'SHUANGXI' BOWLS
DAOGUANG SEAL MARKS IN UNDERGLAZE BLUE AND OF THE PERIOD (1821-1850)
Each bowl is potted with steep sides and a slightly flaring rim, and is painted on the exterior with four shuangxi (double happiness) characters, each positioned below a bat and alternating with hibiscus sprays. These motifs are surrounded by stylized scrolling peach and lotus sprays and between double lines at the rim and foot.
