With their slightly mannered postures, oval faces and heavy-lidded eyes, these figures are immediately recognisable as coming from the school of Venetian bronze founders in the 16th century. The delicate naturalism of the fruiting foliage of the nozzles is also reminiscent of some of the work of Vincenzo and Gian Gerolamo Grandi, such as the picchiotto, executed by them for Bernardo Cles in the 1530s (Padua, op. cit., pp. 270-271, no. 72).
