Lot Essay

This design of addorsed weeping women was originally used by Benjamin Lewis Vulliamy (1780-1854) for a pair of candelabra delivered in 1811 to the future George IV for Carlton House. They were subsequently removed to Buckingham Palace in 1887 (see J. Harris et al, Buckingham Palace, London, 1986, p. 156.).
