worked in red floss silks with floral borders, an inserted button-hole stitch seam, the cuffs lined with pink silk, the tops with a blue flower
with ink inscription : These Mittens belonged to Princess Charlotte, only child of George IV & Queen Caroline. She was born in January 1796, m Prince Leopold of Saxe-Coburg 1816, died at Claremont November 1817.

Lot Essay

Sold with this lot are two hand-written notes. One gives details of how a Miss Welford of Clapham came to be in possession of the gloves, which were given to her by her aunt, who had married a court tailor, Mr Thomas Crick.
