Meiji-Taisho period (Early 20th century), inlaid wire mark of Ando Workshop
Each vase of tapering ovoid form with high chamfered shoulder and slightly flared neck, decorated in polychrome enamels and silver wires with budding magnolia, with a white sixteen-petal chrysanthemum crest of the Imperial Household on the neck, the shoulder, mouth and foot rim with a floret pattern, all against a pale blue ground, signature on base; rims silver

This pair of vases was presented by Emperor Taisho to Baron Nakamura Satoru at Hayama Imperial Villa on 20 December 1919, on the occasion of the baron's retirement from military service as full general.
