Lot Essay

These ear clips were purchased from Cartier Paris in 1967 by an anonymous client. On 12 May 1976, the client replaced all the diamonds with 100 emeralds. When they went up for auction at Sotheby's New York in 1991, Doris Duke purchased them against a pre-sale estimate of $40,000-60,000.
