Lot Essay

These candelabra derive from a model by foremost bronzier Claude Galle (1759-1815). A related pair of candlesticks executed by the latter circa 1810 is in the Grand Trianon, Versailles (ill. in H. Ottomeyer & P. Pröschel et al., Vergoldete Bronzen, Munich, 1986, vol. I., p.327, fig. 5.1.8).
