Enid Annenberg Haupt was the fourth of eight children of Triangle Publications founder Moses Annenberg. Her brother, Walter, founded TV Guide and Seventeen Magazine. Enid spent 17 years as editor-in-chief of Seventeen. Throughout her life, Haupt placed tremendous importance on beauty, both natural and man-made. She was an avid gardener and benefactor of countless horticultural institutions around the world, most notably the New York Botanical Gardens. She also cultivated a celebrated collection of Impressionist paintings, important jewels and 18th Century European Furniture. In 1983 Enid sold 15 of her Impressionist paintings to her brother and used the proceeds to pay for a $25 million dollar ambulatory care center at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City. Other significant contributions were made by Haupt to the New York Public Library and the Frick Art Reference Library.
