Each frame with incised and applied ebonized bosses and painted with anthemia and husks surrounding a shaped back and bowed seat covered in associated Georgian needlework, on circular tapering legs painted with rings and reeding, ending in later brass caps and bun feet, the seatframes stamped 'HM', ebonized decoration later, minor variations in size (2)

The pastoral needlework panel recalls those that appear on mid-Georgian mahogany library chairs such as two apparently matching chairs attributable to Giles Grendey. One if these is from the celebrated Percival D. Griffiths collection at Sandridgebury, Hertfordshire and is illustrated in R.W. Symonds, English Furniture from Charles II to George II, 1929, p. 155, fig. 102, while the other was sold by a private collector in these Rooms, 18 October 2001. A further Griffiths chair, illustrated in Symonds, fig. 76 is similarly covered.
