According to Terese Tse Bartholomew in Hidden Meanings in Chinese Art, Hong Kong, 2006, p. 79, the motif of grape clusters are indicative of a wish for ceaseless generations of sons and grandsons, similar to the wish implied by the bottle gourds. A pair of cloisonné jardinieres supporting similar fruit laden hardstone plants was sold at Christie's London, 5 December 2012, lot 569.
