Lot Essay

A pen and ink drawing in the Minton Ornamental Shape Book identifies the model as shape 267, a 'Sèvres three-light wall bracket'. Although the designs in this ledger are not dated, shape numbers were issued chronologically. 1838-1840 can thus be extrapolated as a production date, an unusually early date for the production of Sèvres copies by the Minton factory. See P. Atterbury and M. Batkin, The Dictionary of Minton, Suffolk, 1990, p. 184 for the drawing.
