Dr. Christian J.A. Jorg reports that in 1773 the Dutch East India Company's "Requirements" included a narrow dish for one herring and a wider version for two (Porcelain of the Dutch China Trade, p. 179.) A rare "two-fish" dish is in the Geemeente Museum, The Hague (illustrated by T. Volker, De Chinese Porselein Kast, cat. no. 238) and another was sold Christie's New York, 23 January 2007, lot 17. Interestingly these dishes were originally inspired by Delft, and then later themselves inspired a transfer-printed Spode earthenware pattern.
