The present pair of vases appears to be quite unusual, although similar vases are known. A larger (37.3 cm. high), Qianlong-marked bottle vase, also glazed in pale celadon over copper red, and with a dragon applied to the neck, in the collection of the National Museum of China, is illustrated in Zhongguo Guo Jia Bowuguan, Shanghai, 2006, p. 181, no. 119. Compare, also, the smaller example (14.3 cm.) sold in these rooms, 17 September 2008, lot 492.
