The Pewter Society database notes a link between Francis and North America for the same hallmarks are found on some plates with the crowned rose mark L879 (see Laughlin: Pewter in America, its Makers and their Marks) that is associated with pewter made in Boston, Massachusetts. This suggests Francis started his working life in England and then moved to Boston. Records have been found of a Thomas Francis Pewterer in Boston.
