A PALE CELADON JADE MOUNTAIN CARVING
QING DYNASTY, 18TH/19TH CENTURY
Of irregular shape, the rocky mountainside well carved to depict Xiwangmu holding a peach in her hands whilst borne on the back of a phoenix beside a pavilion, below which a the branch of a tree bearing the peaches of immortality emerges from the cliff face, while two immortals standing on a turret below look towards two further immortals below carrying a basket of flowers and a double gourd emitting a vapour cloud bearing two bats, the reverse carved with the remaining five immortals on cliffs and borne atop the waves of fast flowing river, the stone of an even pale celadon colour with some minor opaque veining
