Cast from the reduction originally in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. The original triumphal arch was built in the final years of the reign of Emperor Augustus to celebrate the Roman victory over the Salassi tribe who previously inhabited the area. The first century AD stone structure still stands in the Piazza Arco D'Augusto, Aosta, Italy.
