Further details
In 1777, the Francis Gardner Factory was commissioned by Catherine the Great to make services decorated with ribbons, badges and stars of the more important of the Imperial Orders (St. George, St. Andrew, St. Alexander Nevskii and Saint Vladimir) for use once a year at the Winter Palace, where the knights of each order dined on their respective Saint's Feast Day. Due to the popularity of the services, in 1783 Catherine II commissioned another service for the Order of St. Vladimir constituting 140 knights, which was completed in 1785.
