The lease for the Rathbone factory is dated 1810. Likely originally a Staffordshire potter, he produce a range of figures often based on local characters and large in scale. Another example of the present Highlander is in the Royal Scottish Musem, Edinburgh. Cf. Patrick McVeigh, Scottish East Coast Potteries, p. 116, fig. 63.
