Large drop-leaf tables with dodecagonal (twelve sided) tops are extremely rare in America and appear to have been a regional preference in the Maryland or Pennsylvania region. Only two other examples have been found. One, with shell-carved knees is in the collection of Historic Deerfield and another was privately owned in the Philadelphia area (Dean A. Fales, Jr., The Furniture of Historic Deerfield (New York, 1976), p. 121, fig. 250; William MacPherson Hornor, Blue Book Philadelphia Furniture (Washington D.C., 1935), pl. 64).
