GIUSEPPE GIROMETTI (1780-1851)
Giuseppe Girometti was one of the most celebrated gem and medal carvers of his period. On the command of the sculptor Canova, he was employed by the Papal Mint from 1822 onward. Other notable patrons of the artist included Tsar Alexander I, the Grand-Duke of Tuscany, the King of Sardinia, King George IV of England, and Prince Borghese. GIUSEPPE CERBARA (1770-1840)
According to R. Righetti, Incisori di Gemme e Cammei in Roma dal Rinascimento all'Ottocento (1952) a number of cameos exist signed Cerbara making it difficult to distinguish between members of the family. Giovanni Battista Cerbara (1740-circa 1812) was famous for engraving contemporary portraits, his sons Giuseppe (1770-1840) and Nicola Cerbara (1797-1858) are mentioned as gem engravers and also worked as medallists at the Rome mint.
