Display stands have played an important role in the presentation of art objects for centuries in China. Some of the finest examples made from materials such as jade, ivory, zitan and other rare woods rivaled the works of art they were used to display. The current stand, carved to mimic a natural cluster of roots, is remarkable for its massive size.
