The elaborate interlocked scroll pattern found on the present table seems to be a feature found on many pieces of lacquered wood furniture made during the reign of the Qianlong emperor. Compare the similar construction found on three pieces of gilt-lacquered wood furniture illustrated by M. Beurdeley, Chinese Furniture, Tokyo/New York/San Francisco, 1979, nos. 176 (a throne), 181 (a low table), and 182 (a corner-leg table). It is interesting to note that in the text for no. 182, the author states that the two tables are typical of furniture found during the reign of the Qianlong emperor.
