Painted in varying shades of blue around the body with bamboo and plantain growing beside large rocks in a terraced garden, the neck with a classic scroll between stiff leaves and ruyi lappets, the base with lotus petals and demi-florets, minor rim restoration

Pear-shaped vases painted with this pattern first appeared in the 15th century. It is not until the Kangxi period that it reappears again, and became more frequently produced in the Imperial kilns. However, a Xianfeng example is less common. Compare an identical example in the collection of Palace Museum, Beijing, illustrated in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum - Blue and White Porcelain with Underglazed Red, vol. III, Hong Kong, 2000, p.167, no. 153.
