A RARE CINNABAR LACQUER BRUSH AND COVER
LATE MING DYNASTY, 17TH CENTURY
Well carved with two shaped cartouches on the cover, each containing a scholar with an attendant on the banks of a river landscaped with bamboo and prunus, the pen with two further cartouches enclosing detailed waterside scenes of a scholar fishing in a pond and of another paddling a raft, with waterfront pavilions in a distance, all above cranes, pine trees and rocks, the tips bordered with auspicious emblems (tip of brush with some areas of damage)
