A rare fan painted with Mandarin portraits,
the leaf painted with portraits of a Mandarin and a Chinese Princess, the punishment of Cupid, against a gold ground, the verso painted with an ornamental pheasant and peonies against a silver ground, the mother of pearl sticks carved and pierced with figures in landscapes - 11in. (28cm.), Chinese, possibly Macao, late 18th century (one guardstick repaired, old repairs to gold ground of leaf)
