拍品专文

Each carved on the top of the cover with a scene of the ‘Three Friends of Winter’ (pine, bamboo and prunus) framed by small lingzhi heads at each corner, the box raised on four low feet.

Boxes of this form with rounded sides and corner bracket feet are rare. The form is undoubtedly inspired by early 18th century enamel or lacquer boxes. A lacquer box of this shape can be found in Palace Museum, Beijing, see The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum, Lacquer Wares of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 2006, p. 238, no. 179.
