A RARE RUSSIAN (TULA?) DRESS SABRE
Early 19th Century
With curved single-edged blade of imitation damascus steel, double-edged towards the clipped point and with a wide shallow fuller at the middle, a short ricasso, and etched foliated designs (rubbed) at the forte, mameluke hilt of cut-steel work with short vertically recurved quillons ending in discs, large langets of pointed-oval shape, the inner one framing an inlaid silver plaque engraved with the Prince of Wales's feathers and motto with sprays of conventional foliage above and below, steel pommel chiselled in the form of a lion's head, and inset cross-hatched ivory grip-scales, in its original leather-covered scabbard with iron mounts (minor dents) partly etched with foliage (rubbed), and with applied cut-steel decoration and two loose-rings, the internal lockets faced on their inner sides with silver engraved with half-flowers
