In the aesthetic taste, set on a square foot, the body with chased and applied carp swimming amidst water lilies, irises, and cat-tails, with an engraved Japanese poem about an old pond, the handles formed as elephant heads, the base engraved with the monogram GSP, marked under base, the pattern number 8795 in an oval for samples
9 in. high; 34 oz.

A tea service, of similar square form and set with nearly identical elephant's-head handles, was in the Charles H. Carpenter Jr. collection, and sold at Christie's, January 21, 1994, lot 25. Another example, again by Gorham, is in the Henry Ford Museum.
