A related, but slightly smaller (5.1 cm. ) white jade pendant of a crouching creature, from the late Shang, ca. 1250 BC, tomb of Fu Hao is illustrated in Zhongguo Yuqi Heji, vol. 2, Shang, Xi Zhou, Hebei, 1993, pp. 38 and 235, no. 45, where it is described as a gecko and as being carved from Khotan white jade from Xinjiang. See, also, the smaller (4.3 cm.) pale greenish-yellow jade tiger pendant dated to the Shang dynasty sold in The Chang Wei-Hwa Collection of Archaic Jades; Christie’s Hong Kong, 30 November 2020, lot 2728.
