A Regency black marble mantel timepiece, circa 1825
The tapering case with pilasters to the front incised with pseudo hieroglyphics, on stepped base, with fleur-de-lys cast bezel to the gilt-brass dial, the chapter ring with painted Roman numerals and signed JAMES MURRAY & CO. ROYAL EXCHANGE/LONDON, the centre engraved with foliate scrolls and flowerheads, blued steel moon hands, the single fusee movement with circular plates and anchor escapement, with pendulum holdfast to the backplate with repeat signature -- 12¼in. (31cm.) high
