The brass-enriched occasional table, with hollow-sides altar plinth on palm-wrapped truss feet, reflects the Franch/antique fashion promoted by the connoisseur Thomas Hope's Household Furniture and Interior Decoration, 1807 and manufactured by cabinet-makers, such as George Bullock (d.1818) of London and Liverpool. Its top with brass ringed and flower-inlaid compartment relates to that of rosewood tables commissioned in 1817 for the Liverpool Town Hall from Edmundson and Sons of Liverpool (see L Boynton, The Regency Furniture in Liverpool Town Hall' Furniture History, 1970 pl.42B)
