A Regency lacquered and penwork chess set box, early 19th century
Of rectangular form, decorated overall with flowers, foliage, vases and insects, the long sides with central depictions of an oriental mounted horseman and an elephant with howdah respectively, the sliding cover with CHESS in letters formed from depictions of chess pieces -- 6 5/8in. (16.8cm.) long, 4½in. (11.4cm.) wide; and a carved ivory chess set, 19th century, stained red and natural, one red pawn lacking, the king -- 2¼in. (5.7cm.) high
